Why am I in college?
I am in
college because I want to be. I made the choice to go to college, with the help
of my parents and siblings. I am here to further my education in a new more advanced
way. So I therefore, can get a higher up job, which for me I want to be a
kindergarten teacher, it has been my dream job ever since I was little. I also
am in college because I want to follow my dreams, and one of my dreams was to
go to college. I didn’t exactly know how I was going to do it and be in college
because I am a first generation college student, my parents did not go to
college, and I am the youngest of four siblings, and none of them have gone to
college either. So, to me it’s a big deal to be in college right now because I am
the first, but this is where I want to be, so I am here. Also, I am in college
to set a good example for my younger cousins, I want them to see that college
is possible for them, just like it was possible for me. I would love for them
to follow in my footsteps and go to college, I want them to see that college is
a huge deal and in the end it is so worth it. I am here in college at Pikes Peak to make
connections to other people, who can help me pursue my dreams further. I want
to make connections to college students, who I can be friends with, and we can
help each other succeed. Being here will help me further my dreams and it will
give me life skills I can use later, whether it is how to be a better writer or
how to take notes, there are skills I will learn that will be valuable, and I want
to know them. I am here to learn these skills. Being here will help me find
other interest, maybe things I didn’t know I liked or could do until now. I
will be exploring new things, which is great because I have a better knowledge
of different things, rather than the same things. Having knowledge of more than
one type of thing or way doing it, is a life skill that is needed, and college
helps with that. I am going to college for later on as well
because I want my children, when I do have children later on in life, to follow
my path. I want to set an example for them, even before they are born, so
hopefully knowing I went to college, will get them motivated to go to college,
when they are my age. I am setting examples for them by doing this. Therefore, I
have many reasons I am in college, but the biggest one, is that I am here for
myself, I made the choice, and I want to stick with it.

ReplyDeleteThis was a thoughtful response to the question; thank you! It takes a special person to be a kindergarten teacher, so it's great that you have had that dream for so long and that you're pursuing it.
I'm also a first generation college student, so I can relate to your sentiments about being self-motivated and determined to build your own life. If you stick with it, you'll succeed -- I have no doubt.
As the semester goes on, please let me know what I can do to help make the transition into college easier for you.

You are welcome and thank you as well.
DeleteThat's pretty cool, its pretty nice when you have or can see people who can relate to you, and see how they have succeed. Knowing that it makes me feel better about it, like I definitely can do it, as long as I stick with it. Thank you, I am glad you believe so, I have no doubt mostly about it either.
Okay will do, thank you again.
